Kenya's railways system is mired in decades of neglect and underfunding; most of the rolling stock is well over 60 years old and looks it. Most of it was built in Great Britain during the steam era. A trip from Nairobi to Mombasa on the coast was a zen exercise in patience as no train will run even remotely close to schedule but was an experience not to be forgotten.
